More than just a rescue

We do more than just rescue those horses that are in trouble. We actively help those that need help before they need rescuing as well.

If you can no longer properly care for a horse, that does not make you a bad person, nor should you be afraid or too proud to ask for help. Letting them starve to death would be wrong!

We are here to help you help the horses and will do everything in our power to do so. We can find them a new home where they will be cared for and happy.

PLEASE, DON'T BE EMBARASED OR AFRAID TO CONTACT US FOR HELP.
Not all the equines we deal with have suffered or been abused, in fact many were not. We can help before that happens. We understand that circumstances change. All of our lives we deal with these changes. Just because you can no longer afford the time, or maybe you just plain can't afford the expense of taking care of your equine, this does not make you a bad person; especially if you are doing the right thing...... read more >>>

Adoptable horses
Horses are, by their very nature, beautiful. They have, however, very different personalities just like people do. Our goal is to find the right horse that fits right in to your lifestyle, your home and your heart. Check out some of our ... adoptable horses>>>

Horses in Rehab
Horses in rehabilitation are not healthy enough or, for other reasons, are not yet ready to be adopted at this time. They receive special care from the experienced staff at Wayward Horse Foundation and as needed by one of the great veterinarians we use. Meet some of our horses in rehab>>>

Resident Horses
These are Equines that might never be adopted out. They remain at WHF for special reasons. See our resident horses>>>

Sponsor a Horse
It has become part of our society to throw away the old and broken and replace it with the new and improved. When you sponsor a horse, you support all horses, old and young alike. Help a horse through sponsorship. Learn more >>>

Memorials
These are poems or stories about horses that people miss very much. If you would like a special memorial page for your friend, send us an electronic photo, if you have one, along with a poem or story and a small donation. Learn more >>>

Be a Foster Parent
Have room for one more? How would you like to help an equine in need by providing a temporary place in your pasture and in your heart? Learn more >>>

So who are some of our friends?
Contrary to popular belief, we are NOT government funded nor have we received grants to operate with. We depend strictly on donations to continue saving these horses. Even the adoption prices do not cover what we have had to spend in the recovery of these horses. WE DEPEND ON PEOPLE LIKE YOU! Do you know some one on this list; Is your name on this list? "It was a pleasure to chat with you..  It was wonderful that something in common that we have is Horseback riding.  A lifetime hobby.  The Hippotherapy that treated my condition as an Aspergian. I was affected by autism but I'm inspiring lots of autistic children's parents."

(In hippotherapy, the patient engages in activities on the horse that are enjoyable and challenging).

NEWS AND EVENTS

Stallion to be put down?

We received a call about a 2 yr old stallion about to be put down for being too wild. After going to look at it, and finding it wasn't wild at all, we discovered that the lady was just afraid of horses in general and never really wanted one. (This one was given to her) She turned it over to us and we now have and are working with him. He is beautiful, spirited (not wild), and very smart. We are happy to have him and enjoy working with him.

Survivors!

After working long and hard, 4 of the latest rescued horses have survived. We would like it to have been all of them, however, the others were just too far gone with the strangles and starvation to have survived. The great news is that these 4 are getting better and better and are really very nice horses. We even have 2 of them with adoptions pending once they are healthy. We thank the new adopted owners for their care and devotion to helping these two horses. (They have even taken over the expenses and most of the care of these two at our site.) We thank all of you for your prayers, and especially all of our volunteers for their dedication and hard work. A special thank you goes out to our Vet. for his extra care above and beyond all expectations.

Beginning new rescue.

Received a call requesting our help with a large number of horses that are being seized. Our volunteers have been called and have responded 100%. 8 horses have been brought to our facility to try to save, but are in critical condition. (8 others were already dead out in the field) All have been starved and have active strangles. We of course will do everything we can to save as many as we can.

There is just NO excuse for this!!! Starved Horse

We know none of our friends would let this happen! This is why we do what we do! Although this mare didn't make it, we have saved 3 more from the same herd that has survived. They are all very gentle loving horses and will be wonderful additions to who ever adopts them. They are young and easily handled. PLEASE help us pay the vet bills by clicking the donate button. Even a small $10 donation adds up and will allow us to continue helping these and other horses like them. As fellow horse lovers, we can all make a difference together.

THANK YOU,

James, Terri, Rob, Jessie, and the whole herd at Wayward Horse Foundation
